What is Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is basically sharing and delivering computing services over the Internet. In cloud computing, servers sharing, storage and database sharing, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence are included. It is an on-demand computing service, with the help of which people can increase their computing power and use several advanced computer services such as servers, unlimited storage, etc, even without owning these services.

Let’s understand it in simple words, so suppose you have a PC or Laptop in which storage power is 1tb, now you got some important data of 1.5 GB so how you can store it? By purchasing a new storage device, I know most of us are thinking about this answer, but what of told I have a better, which not only store your data but also secure your data and with this option, you will be able to access your data from anywhere and using any device through the internet, and that option is Cloud computing. With the help of cloud computing, all your data is saved in data centers, which you can access from anywhere in the world over the internet. Often, large companies, websites, developers use it to save their database, for a good server or for hosting.

Many of us are already aware of cloud computing but they do not use it, because they think that their data will not remain safe on any other platform, but this is just a delusion, data centers are one of the safest options to keep the type of data safe.

Cloud Computing Services

The service of Cloud computing is divided into 3 major categories, IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) & SaaS (Software as a Service) which are related to each other.

IaaS (Infrastructure As a Service)

Infrastructure As a Service is the first major service of Cloud computing. In IaaS the cloud service provider offers you IT Infrastructure services such as a server, hardware, OS, Network, space, etc and they also provide you maintenance of these services. Although all these services have been leased, users have the right to manage and operate them, they will continue to use this service as long as they keep paying for it. The ground level companies, which want to control their applications, servers, etc. by themselves, this is the best option for them. According to research by Oracle, Two-thirds of the IAAS users said that using online infrastructure makes innovation easier, and it cuts down that time and maintenance cost, which is used to deploy new applications and services. The only issue with iaaS is security concerns, most of the users consider iaaS as a less secure service. Example – Amazon Web Services (AWS), Compute Engine (GCE), etc.

PaaS (Platform as a Service)

PaaS (Platform as a Service) is the 2nd major service by cloud computing, Under this service, service providers provide a computing platform or environment to application developers, which includes an operating system, programming-language execution environment, database, and web server, so that developers can easily develop and run their application without worrying about the Installation or management of the underlying infrastructure of server, storage, network and databases required for the development.

Under PaaS, the developer can not manage or control the built-in cloud infrastructure, such as the network, server, operating system, or storage, and for any type of change, the developer needs assistance from the service provider. But the developer can control the deployed applications and configuration settings for the application-hosting platform. Example – Windows Azure, Heroku, etc.

SaaS (Software as a Service)

SaaS (Software as a Service) is quite different from both the two other services (IaaS and PaaS) of cloud computing. SaaS is basically a way of delivering software applications to users over the Internet on a subscription plan. This is a consumer-ending service, in which the customer does not have to worry about controlling and managing the application, with SaaS, instead of customer, the service providers host and manage the application and underlying infrastructure and control and manage the maintenance of the application such as application up-gradation and a security patch update. The user only has to buy this app and have to use the services of the application. And to buy such an application, a fixed monthly or annual membership is determined. Example – Microsoft Office 360, AppDynamics, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.

Types of cloud computing

Like the services of Cloud computing, there also different types of Cloud computing available in the market. And which type of cloud computing service will be appropriate for the consumer depends on the requirement of the consumer. There are total 3 types of cloud computing available right now..

  1. Public Cloud
  2. Private Cloud
  3. Hybrid Cloud

Public Cloud

The public cloud is operated and owned by a third party cloud computing service provider, where the service provider manages and controls all hardware, software, and other IT infrastructure. This is the most affordable option for users in which the service provider carries the bandwidth and infrastructure costs.

Opposite from the public cloud, the access to the services of private cloud is granted only to a single entity. Private Cloud can be hosted by both the way externally and internally. It Depends on the organization whether it wants to host their private cloud on their own datacenters or want to host it by any third-party service provider. Private Cloud is mostly used by big and sensitive companies, which have a management team and private network to operate and manage their private cloud. Compared to Public Cloud, there are more configurable options in the private cloud, with the help of which the cloud can be customized according to the requirements.

Hybrid Cloud

Hybrid Cloud is a combination of both Public and Private cloud. It gives users the features, the flexibility of the public and private cloud. The Hybrid Cloud feature allows companies to take advantage of the public cloud due to their easy workload migration. A large organization can use the public cloud for its daily and normal activities, such as emails, blog writing, etc, As well as for other sensitive functions of the organization such as data analysis, financial reports, etc., an organization can use a private cloud.

A few days ago I also encountered this error and for a while, I was also shocked that what it is? But then when I went into its depth, I found that this is a common error and like many other errors it can be easily removed. You just need to know what is the correct procedure.

As I said I faced this issue a few days ago, it happened while I was enabling BitLocker in one of my old Windows 10 PC, then suddenly I got an error message “This device can’t use a Trusted Platform Module”. At that time I was completely unaware of this error, and that’s why I tried to know it, and finally, I was able to find a solution. So let’s know what it is, but before going to the procedure first you need to know that what is TPM “Trusted Platform Module”?

What is Trusted Platform Module (TPM)

Trusted Platform Module (TPM), this heavy term is used for a special type of chip that attaches to new processors and comes with some additional security features. In the Windows system, Bitlocker uses Trusted Platform Module TPM, it stores the encryption key on the chip. After that, the second thing that TPM performs authenticate is your encrypted computer and give you access to all the encrypted data when the device trying to access it is identified as trusted. TPM chip is useful but It is not that if you do not have a chip that supports TPM, you will not be able to use BitLocker, you can use BitLocker even in that case, but then you need to store the encryption key on a USB stick.

All we have to do is to make some necessary tampering with the group policy settings, which will allow us to enable BitLocker without TPM chip. Nothing you will find tough in this process, you can do it simply, by just following the steps I shared below.

  1. Turn on your Windows PC and press the Windows Key + R to open the “Run” dialog box or you can also open “Run” by clicking on the Start button in Windows 10 and typing in Run. how to open gpedit
  2. In the Run dialog box, type “gpedit.msc” and press Enter to open the group policy editor settings.
  3. After opening the group policy editor, click on the Computer Configuration section from the left-hand panel and then open the following sections step by step

Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> BitLocker Drive Encryption -> Operating System Drives

  1. Now after opening all the sections one by one in the end, you will get an option called “Require additional authentication at startup” on the right-hand side. Open it by clicking twice on it.
  2. In “Require additional authentication at startup” settings box, you will find that by default “Not Configured” is selected there, you’ll have to change it on “Enable” by clicking on the Enabled radio button.
  3. After that check the option which says “Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM” and press OK, though it should be checked automatically after the step 5 process if not then do it by yourself.
  4. Now close the group policy editor section and go back to the BitLocker screen and try to enable BitLocker again. I am sure this time you won’t get the error message “This device can’t use a Trusted Platform Module”, and instead of this, you will see the BitLocker setup screen. When you click Next, the installation of BitLocker will be started on your Windows 10 system.
